Shawn Stumpf Says These Military Insights Help in His Daily Life

Looking to boost productivity? Want to achieve more? Successful entrepreneur Shawn Stumpf uses lessons learned in the military to achieve personal success. Now, he’ll share some insights.

Success is easier said than achieved. Still, Shawn Stumpf of Sarasota has enjoyed quite a bit of success over the years and believes that his previous experience as a Blackhawk crew chief in the army helped him prepare for life after the military. By leveraging tactics and methods used by the military, you may also be able to secure success.

“When you’re in the military, you have to step back and look at the big picture, the greater whole,” Shawn Stumpf says. “You’re part of a vast organization that spans the world, protecting America at home and encouraging freedom abroad. Being in the military encouraged me to think about the big picture.”

Think of some of the greatest entrepreneurs alive today, such as Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk. It’s safe to say that both of them have thought about the big picture at some point or another. Amazon started as an online bookstore, but now sells everything literally from A to Z. Amazon has operations in numerous countries and supplies the infrastructure used by much of the Internet.

When Elon Musk set out to build a car company, he had greater ambitions than “just” shaking up the automobile industry. His home energy solutions may increase sustainability and help strengthen the energy infrastructure in America and abroad too. Meanwhile, Musk’s SpaceX company is enabling space exploration and could one day help humanity reach Mars and beyond.

You’ll struggle to reach such great heights without stepping back to look at the big picture. And even if your ambitions are more grounded, stepping back and looking at larger events and trends may help.

“I’ve had a lot of success with investing,” Shawn Stumpf notes. “And while I spend a lot of time pouring through numbers, financials, and all that, I also pay attention to larger market trends, political developments, and the like. Being in the military encouraged me to think about how much interconnection there is in the world.”

Shawn Stumpf of Sarasota Talks About Routine and Team Work

Another important thing military life taught Shawn Stumpf is routine. Military life is highly regimented, and you might think that will stifle creativity. However, a routine can provide a stable foundation, allowing you to be more creative.

“Daily life can be difficult for entrepreneurs and everyone else,” Shawn Stumpf argues. “By developing effective routines, I can make sure I check off all the little boxes, that my personal life is stable, and that I’m consistently progressing. This stability helps me be more creative if anything.”

Another important aspect of military life is teamwork, which is important outside the military as well.

“Working as a crew chief, I had to rely on my team, and they relied on me as well,” Shawn Stumpf says. “If you want to be successful, you’ll often need a team you can rely on day in and day out. It’s hard to be a one-man army.”
